ABOUT

Christen Svingos has a masters from New York University in Dance Education and is certified to teach K-12 in New York and Maryland. After obtaining an undergraduate degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine and traveling South East Asia and Europe on a cruise ship as a personal trainer/fitness instructor Christen found herself on the stage again.  While performing she began seeking other opportunities to teach dance.  Svingos discovered her desire to pursue a career in public school dance education during a long-term substitute teaching opportunity at Patapsco High School for the Performing Arts.

After obtaining her degree she used her background in jazz, ballet, tap and hip-hop to pursue a dance career, performing and choreographing several professional musical theatre productions at the regional level in the Baltimore-DC Metro area.  Her choreography of Memphis, the musical was recently nominated for "Best Choreography, Helen Hayes Awards." Other choreography credits include In the Heights, Hairspray, and Pajama Game to name a few. Her performance credits includes Cats, Chicago, White Christmas, Hairspray and Oklahoma to name a few.  She also taught dance and musical theatre in several studios, summer camps, and after school programs.

Christen is currently teaching full time for Baltimore County Public Schools at Milford Mill Academy in the Magnet and Elective program.  She previously taught at Williamsburg Charter High School in Brooklyn, NY.  She applies her anatomy and physiology background along with a strong pedagogical background from NYU to her dance and theatre classes.

She is grateful for each and every opportunity that has come her way and welcomes new endeavors with open arms!
